As it came closer, we could see that it was a circular object, with either lights or maybe port windows all around the outer edge spinning in the clockwise direction; it hovered silently at about 5 degrees South of where we were standing, and the lights, which were similar in ouput to car lights, were bright but had no noticeable glare.
Around that time , the city of Montevideo had installed new mercury and sodium gas lights, which were reflected by the bottom of the object, which gave the appearance of polished metal, perhaps aluminum or stainless steel; also appeared to be solid, with no wings, or any other kind of conventional flight equipment.
After a while, the lights began to spin faster and at the same time change color; creamy yellow, a little faster, then bright yellow, much faster, then orange, then bright red, almost like the color of blood, and spinnig very fast. Then, all of a sudden, it took off, still headed towards the East, at a rate of speed the likes of which we never seen before, or ever since. In a matter of a fraction of a second, and still noiseless, it was out of our sight.
Although my brother and I had seen light formations in the sky behaving strangely (also in the company of other people), deep inside we did not believe in UFO's. Our own father, very much the skeptic, said we had seen nothing but "the reflection of headligts from passing cars" or possibly "search lights illuminating the clouds"(!)
For the longest time we never talked about this occurrence, not even amongst our selves and specially not with other people. But mostly, we said nothing, for fear of ridicule.
Now, many people have claimed to have seen them, some even claim to have been abducted by them, so I think now it would be ok to admit we have seen a UFO.
